Preparing crab at home can be a little intimidating especially when you haven’t. Getting the crab cleaned requires a bit of effort but it well worth it in the end.
If you’ve purchased a live crab, you can kill the crab by dipping it in boiling water for 1 minute and submerging the crab in ice water to stop the cooking process.
Pull off the top shell, remove the gills and scoop out the guts inside the body of the crab. Remove anything in the crab that’s not meat.
Rinse, and pull off the abdomen. Rinse the crab under the tap.
Cut your crab into quarters by splitting down the middle, then cutting each side into halves.
Keep chilled until needing to cook.
