Classic Fish & Chips

An Aussie classic. This recipe shows you how to create a Light, crisp battered Fish and Chips to take comfort food to the next level. It’s always good to indulge yourself every once in a while.This is a recipe the whole family will love and can be served up in just under half an hour. Don’t forget the tomato sauce! Enjoy.


750g Snapper Fillets

4 large Potatoes, peeled and cut into strips

1 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Salt

1 tsp Ground Black Pepper

125g plain Flour

250m Milk

1 Egg

1 litre Vegetable Oil, for frying


Step 1

Place potatoes in a medium-size bowl of cold water. In a separate medium-size mixing bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, salt and pepper.

Step 2

Stir in the milk and egg then stir until the mixture is smooth. Let mixture stand for 18-20 minutes.

Step 3

Preheat the oil in a large saucepan, deep fryer or electric frypan to 180 degrees C.

Step 4

Fry the potatoes in the hot oil until they are tender. Drain them on paper towels.

Step 5

Batter the fish one piece at a time and place in the hot oil. Fry until the fish is golden brown. Drain well on paper towels.

Fry the potatoes again for 1 to 2 minutes for added crispness.
